SGI is proud to be able to illuminate and enhance pieces of West Virginia history. Partnering with Advantage Steel in restoring the historical Wheeling Suspension Bridge landmark, completed in 1849 and spanning the Ohio River. We added decorative linear fixtures and LED flood lighting carefully integrated with custom structure mounted lighting conduit to preserve the historic integrity of the bridge. As a historical centerpiece of Wheeling, the bridge deserved a lighting solution that respects its legacy while showcasing its timeless beauty.
Upgrading infrastructure is a positive step to streamlining and improving community well-being. At SGI, we hope to play a pivotal role in making sure that West Virginia stays current with the latest technology to make your daily commute as efficient as possible. One of our most comprehensive system overhauls to date involves modernizing traffic management in Fairmont. This upgrade replaces outdated timer-based signals with advanced sensor technology. The project also includes enhancements to communication systems, and controllers. We have been updating 28 intersections, including those on Fairmont Avenue and East Park Ave, and Locust Avenue. The new system will feature adaptive technology with cameras and sensors designed to monitor and respond to traffic flow, reducing unnecessary idling and mitigating congestion. These cameras aren’t for catching red light runners but are designed to read traffic flow and analyzing traffic patterns. Overall, the new technology should help minimize idling and ease congestion throughout the city.
Not all of our projects are as vast and prestigious as others, but we do pride ourselves in being able to complete the smaller but no less important projects, such as the installation of school zone flashers. Flashing beacons are essential for improving safety in school zones. These bright, flashing lights act as a visual signal to drivers, indicating the presence of a school zone and prompting them to drive with greater caution. Like the one that we completed for Lincoln Highschool in Harrison county.
The West Virginia State Capitol stands as a symbol of governance and leadership for the state of West Virginia, housing both the West Virginia Legislature and the Governor’s office. To maintain and enhance the building’s prestigious presence, Specialty Groups completed a significant renovation project focusing on its North Courtyard and West Lawn exteriors. This crucial update includes modernizing lighting by replacing 35 outdated lights and installing 167 new, high-efficiency flood light fixtures to improve both functionality and aesthetic appeal. Also, extensive electrical work with the installation of 10,000 feet of new wiring and 2,000 feet of conduit to ensure a reliable and durable lighting system. This project not only revitalizes the Capitol’s exterior lighting but also underscores the commitment to preserving and enhancing the state’s iconic government building.
We look to the future with further work involving replacing foundations and conduit for light poles, restoring historic light fixtures, and other much- needed renovations and upgrades around the famous gold dome.
